Klankverbond is the Flemish professional association and advocacy body for audio makers

Klankverbond is the Flemish association for professional audio creators.

We bring together everyone working with sound, including podcasters, sound artists, voice actors, sound designers, radio and documentary producers, and writers, and advocate for their needs. We are a diverse community united by a love for the craft and a shared need for support.

Although audio is more popular than ever, funding for creators hasn’t kept pace. That’s why Klankverbond acts as the voice of the sector, driving initiatives to strengthen audio’s presence in media and the arts, improve working conditions, and raise professional standards. Progress has been made, but there’s still more to do.

At the same time, Klankverbond is a vibrant network where voices connect through workshops, masterclasses, professional days, and sector events to learn, share, inspire, and meet.

We are supported by the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (VAF), Sabam for Culture, and deAuteurs, working together to build a high-quality, sustainable environment for audio production.

Where we are now

Klankverbond is a young, growing professional association committed to everyone who works with audio professionally, or wants to: podcast creators, radio makers, sound artists, audio producers, voice actors, writers, directors, editors…

We build connections with our partner organizations across borders: Oorzaken in the Netherlands, ACSR in French-speaking Belgium, and MIRP in Europe and beyond.

Broadly speaking, we do three things:

  1. We act as the voice of the sector with policymakers, funding bodies, theatre companies, arts centres, and broadcasters. We highlight blind spots, put forward recommendations, and raise the alarm where necessary.

  2. We advocate for structural funding and a strong embedding of audio work within the arts and media, not as an add-on, but as a fully-fledged discipline.

  3. We build a living network where knowledge is shared and where there is space for (self-)reflection, feedback, and development, so that expertise doesn’t remain siloed, but helps move the entire sector forward.

Where we are heading

Our ambition is clear: a sustainable, inclusive, and high-quality production environment for audio makers, in which stories told through sound are taken just as seriously as stories told through images.

That requires courage: structural funding, a long-term vision, and policies that take pride in what creators from Flanders and Brussels have to say.

We are making progress, sometimes taking two steps forward and one back. But as long as there are creators who believe in audio, we will keep making our voices heard: with both head and heart, as volunteers and professionals, rooted in practice.
